    World Championship:
    wcc

    The World Chess Championship is organized by FIDE to determine the World Chess Champion for a particular year. The title of ‘World Chess Championship’ is considered to be the most prestigious one in the chess world and is open for both men and women. This championship includes following events:

    • National Championships
    • Zonal & Continental Championships
    • The World Chess Cup (128 player knock-out tournament)
    • World Candidates matches
    • World Chess Championship Tournament.

    All the regulations and standards of this tournament are created by FIDE. There is a committee nominated by the FIDE President, which takes care of the communication with the players and other arrangements of the championship.

    Women’s World Chess Championship:

    The Women’s World Chess Championship is organized by FIDE to determine the Women’s World Chess Champion for a particular year. However, most of the women chess players prefer to compete for the World Chess Championship rather than this event restricted only to women. All the regulations and rules of this tournament is created and maintained by FIDE.

    Candidates Matches:

    The Candidates Matches are held to determine the challenger for the World Chess Championship. The winner of the Candidates tournament is the one who challenges the reigning World Champion. It is organized by FIDE and it creates all the rules and regulations for the tournament.

    The first round of the Candidates matches starts with 16 players of whom only 8 qualify to the second round. Four winners from the second round qualify for the World Chess Championship tournament.

    Zonal Tournament (Men & Women):

    The Men and Women zonal tournaments are organized by FIDE for each zone respectively. This tournament is played to select the players who are entitled to participate in the Men's and Women's World Championship. Both men’s and women’s tournament is organized by the same federation. There is Zonal President for each zone, as appointed by FIDE who are responsible for organizing this tournament.

    All the Zonal Tournaments follow the FIDE rules and standards for time and rate. Each participant has to play four games, which is fixed as per the FIDE rule.

    Asian Women’s Championship:

    TThis championship is held every two years. One of the Federations of Zones 3.1 to 3.4 organizes the event. Players from Federations 3.1 to 3.4 are entitled to participate in this event. The current Champion can also participate in this tournament. The Championship matches are played as per the FIDE rules and regulations.

    Team Championships:

    Continental Chess Championships

    These championships are held once in four years. It is held for the men’s team only. The winning team of the Continental Chess Championship represents its continent at the next World Team Championship. FIDE decides all the rules and regulations for these events, which tend to be different, based on the circumstances of each continent.

    Chess Olympiad

    The Chess Olympiad is held twice a year. Teams from all over the world compete against each other in this event. FIDE is the organizer of this event.

    Chess associations from all over the world, recognized by FIDE, can enter their teams into the Olympiad. Each team competing in the event had 6 players of which two are reserves. The trophy for the winning men’s team is known by the name of Hamilton-Russell Cup and Vera Menchik Cup is awarded to the winning women team.

    World Chess Team Championship

    The World Chess Team Championship is held in every four years. It’s held for the men’s team only. It is held after the Chess Olympiad, which is again held after the Continental Championships. FIDE organizes this event and takes care of the rules and regulations of the event.

    The four Continental Champion teams and three highest rated men’s teams in the Chess Olympiad are eligible to qualify for this championship. The winning team is awarded a Trophy along with individual medals and prizes for all the players. The trophy however, is the property of FIDE, which is competed again for the next Championship cycle. The name of the players of the winning team and the winning Federation are recorded into the FIDE Golden Book.

    Junior Championships:

    World Junior Chess Championship

    The World Junior Chess Championship is for players under the age of 20 years. It is organized by FIDE. The rules and regulations followed in the matches are decided by FIDE. The winner of the event receives the title of Grandmaster or Woman Grandmaster. The second and third runner-ups are awarded the title of the International Master or Woman International Master.

    European Youth Championships

    The European Youth Championships was first held in the year 1991. It is organized by the European chess union or ECU. This championship is held for the players under the age groups of 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 year.

    European Junior Chess Championships:

    The first official European Junior Championships was held in the year 1971/72. It is held for the players under the age group of 20 years. The rules followed in the championship are decided by FIDE.

    World Youth Chess Championships:

    The World Youth Chess Championship is held for the players of the age group of 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18. Both boys and girls of the mentioned age group can qualify for this event.

    World Blitz Championships:

    Fast chess is known as blitz chess. It is an attacking game where the contestants get no more than 1 to 3 hours each. The tournament allows less than 15 minutes for a side per move. The rules of the tournament are decided upon by the FIDE.
