World Chess Champions are the winners of World Chess Championship, the biggest chess event in the world. Both men and women are eligible to contest for this title. World Chess Championship determines the world champion from all FIDE approved chess players in the world.
The first recorded World Chess Championship took place in the year 1886. The format of the championship is administered by FIDE where the challenger has to defeat the reigning world champion to win the title.
The current World Chess Champion is Viswanathan Anand who won the title in the year 2007 and defended it successfully in the year 2008 against Vladimir Kramnik. |
