Alexandra Kosteniuk was born in the year 1984 on the 23rd April in a place called Perm in Russia. She was a kid of 5 when her father introduced her to chess. Konstantin Vladimirovich Kosteniuk, her father, wanted his daughter to stand out and take up chess as her primary interest. Alexandra Kosteniuk won the title of Woman Grandmaster at the age of 14 and International Master at the age of 16. Her achievements stood a prominent place in numerous global and regional championships and tournaments. She became a Grandmaster at the age of 20 and came to be recognized all over. Her triumph in the U10 European Championship, which was held in Herculane in the year 1994, Girls Under 12 European Championship held in Rimavaska Sobota in the year 1996 and the Girls Under 12 World Championship held in Minorca in the year1996, have put her among best-known chess players across the globe. She nearly missed the WWCC title in the year 2001 which she played against Zhu Chen and secured the title of WWCC runner up for herself. She became a World Champion in the year 2008.
Besides being a chess star, the world also knows Alexandra Kosteniuk as the beautiful and glamorous Russian model who has never failed to woo the camera. She has also acted in a Russian film, which went through a huge promotional campaign. She has been involved in promotional activities for various products and brands. Fashion magazines, modeling assignments and other entertainment events in Russia and all round the globe, are now incomplete without Alexandra Kosteniuk. She is a producer for popular chess podcast and runs a chess website. She writes poems, enjoys sports in all kinds and forms and also enjoys watching films. Her book ‘How I became Grandmaster at age 14’, her first work, has been published in three languages, namely Russian, Spanish and English respectively.
Alexandra Kosteniuk is married to Diego Garces. She gave birth to a girl in the year 2007 and named her Francesca Maria. The couple lives in Key Biscayne in Florida, US.
