Vladimir Kramnik’s Biography

The humble super-hero of chess, Vladimir Borisovich Kramnik has taken Chess to the heights of glamour where stardom meets simplicity. It was in the year 1992, during the Chess Olympiad in Manila, that the brilliance of his moves was realized by the chess world. Backed by Kasparov’s strong support and despite too many controversies that he was only16 and not a Grandmaster, he went through the selection ultimately to win eight games with a draw and all win…he forbore Kasparov’s faith in him with a Gold Medal.

Year 1975, 25th June, Vladimir Kramik was born to his father Boris, a renowned sculptor and Mother Irina, a music teacher in Russia, on the shores of the Black Sea in a town known by the name of Tuapse. It is probably because of his proximity to art and music since his childhood that his chess moves are harmonious interplay of his pieces. More of an art form rather than a game; Kramik has always tried to infuse creativity, style and innovation in his gaming strategy. “…he sees things that no computer can calculate and no other grandmasters could discover. The ingenious ideas would come to him quite easily, providing him with moments of pure joy”… It is as if he hungers to find out solutions to a game anew. Strongly rooted to his traditions and family, Kramnik has a undying passion for classical music and reading. What would you like to do after the end of your career?" The legendary chess star announced "Start a family - and learn to play the piano." … no wonder the journalists all over the world refer him to as an artist! Karmnik got married to Marie-Laure, an eminent French journalist, on 30th December 2006 in Paris.

Chess has never been a hindrance in the way of his diversified passion to find itself means of expression and areas of interests. Current affairs, world sports (besides chess), cultural activities, music, painting and books are what keep him busy when he is not with his chess board. A serious follower of Art of Living, Strategist and Chess Genius, Kramnik is also very good giving lectures and commentaries

Way to Stardom.

Vladimir Kramnik started playing chess way back in his childhood days, when he was just a kid of 5. Like all Russian Chess stars, Kramnik started his chess career with his education at Mikhail Botvinnik’s chess school. As age and maturity dawned upon him, Kramnik bloomed as a chess player. At 16 he brought home the title of U18 World Championship. The year after he got another feather in his hat by winning a big tournament held in Linares against Vassily Ivanchuk, the then world number three player. His victory at Dortmund for eight times from 1995 to 2007 has proved his wizardry time and time again. “Only he, who penetrates into the depth of the game, can express his personality in it.” says Kramnik and the rest, history has recorded…his continuous wins followed by strings of trophies, accolades and titles.

World Chess Championship:

The thunderstruck crowd, gaping participants and awed critics marked the day of 4th November 2000 in London as Vladimir Kramnik won the title of World Chess Champion playing 16 games against the legendary Garry Kasparov with a splendid score of 8.5 to 6.5. Garry Kasparov couldn’t win a single game against Kramnik. Kasparov went ahead and congratulated this young genius. Kramnik rejoiced the moment, throwing his hands up in the air as the audience burst into applause and cheer. Kramnik mounted the chess throne and rode the ride of fame throughout the world as he broke the 15 years long enigma of Kasparov.
