And how aptly the famous chess player Zhu Chen proved herself right. The winner of Women’s World Championship, Zhu Chen was the first Chinese chess player to win an international title. She went ahead to emerge as a winner in some important tournaments while she grew up. The Queen of Chess, Zhu Chen, made all the rights moves and created a firm place for herself among the world’s top 10 women chess players.
Zhu Chen was born on March 16 in the year 1976 in Wenzhou, Zhejiang, China. She became a Grandmaster quite young. Eminent chess players have trained her throughout her career. Notable amongst them was GM Xu Jun, who used to be one of the most renowned chess players in China. It was in the year 1988 that she won the World Girls Under 12 Championship, held in Romania. In 1994 and 1996 she won the World Junior Girls Chess Championship. She had always taken up challenges as a part of her profession and it was in the year 2001 that she really let the world know about it winning the Women’s World Chess Championship.
Besides chess, Zhu Chen had always made it a point to devote some of her time in to studies. She was a student at Tsinghua University where she studied for her Master’s degree. She married Mohamad Al-Modiahki, the well-known Grandmaster from Qatari and has a girl of two year old. She presently plays for Qatari. Its strange but true that Chen gets goose bumps before every tournament. She keeps awake through nights to fight her nervousness…a common but pleasant human touch that makes her one of the crowd.
Women’s World Chess Championship
Chen was 25 when she won the title of Women’s World Chess Championship. It was in the year 2001. She played the tournament against Alexandra Kosteniuk, the famous chess player from Russia. It was after a long match of 8 games and 20 days that Zhu Chen defeated Alexandra Kosteniuk with the score of 5 to 3. It was an immense proud moment for China as she was the second lady from China to bring home the crown of Women’s World Chess Championship and thus, China’s supremacy in the world of chess continued with the victory. Zhu Chen didn’t participate in the 2004 World Championship Pertaining to her pregnancy and also had a packed schedule.
