Her dream is to win against Judit Polgar, the best woman in chess and buy a house in Paris. She has no qualms whatsoever when it comes to chess. Her passion and profession, Yuhua Xu has never thought twice before taking up chess as her career. The winner of Women’s World Chess Championship 2006, she is the third woman in China after Xie Jun and Zhu Chen who has brought back home the title of WWCC.
Born in the year 1976, on 29th October in Jinhua, Zhejiang, China, Xu is the 21st chess Grandmaster. She has been playing chess since her childhood and has her dreams weaved around it. She was 6 her father introduced her to the beautiful game of chess. Keeping cool is the best way to win a game…she has proved it over and over again in the numerous international tournaments that she has played. She has been an equally brilliant student. Besides being one of the famous women in chess, she is a law graduate.
She is the owner of some important titles, which include the ‘Winner of Zonal tournament’ in 1993 and 2001 respectively, ‘World Cup winner’ for the years 2000 and 2002, ‘Winner of the World team Olympiad’ for years 2000, 2002 and 2004 and of course the crown of WWCC for the years 2006 to 2008.
Women’s World Chess Championship:
It was in the year 2006 that Xu won the title of ‘Women’s World Chess Champion’ after a knock out match with Alisa Galliamova, the Russian International Master hailing from Kazan. Yuhua Xu was three months pregnant at the time of the tournament. The final match was held in Ekaterinburg in Russia. Yuhua Xu won with a score of 21/2-1/2. It was a remarkable match for Xu in terms of her performance. She didn’t lose a single game in the entire tournament. The format was of a knock out tournament, which was played by 64 participants from all over the world. The list also included the former champion Zhu Chen and the then present champion Antoaneta Stefanova. Yuhua Xu took a lead in the third game, of the four games to be held, with 2.5 points against Galliamova’s 0.5.
It was in the Women’s World Chess Championship 2008 that she was eliminated in the second round. She was playing against Alexandra Kosteniuk, the Russian Grandmaster who won the title with a score of 2.5 to1.5.
