Shredder is one of the strongest commercial chess programs designed by Meyer-Kahlen in the year 1993 in Germany. Stefan Meyer-Kahlen was born in the year 1968 in Dusseldorf in Germany. His program is known to have won the title of World Computer Chess Championship for 12 times. Later on Stefan designed and released UCI (Universal Chess Interface) Protocol with Rudolf Huber, the author of SOS.
Shredder was termed the world-class chess engine with its win the World Computer Chess Championship 1999 and 2003. It has also won the World Computer Speed Chess Championship in the year 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2007. Shredder won the World Microcomputer Chess Championship in the year 1996 and 2000. According to the Svenska schackdatorföreningen (SSDF), Shredder was on the 6th rank with a rating of 2832 in the year 2006.
Features:
Shredder has a user interface that is very easy to operate. The software has many chess piece sets and boards. The system is user friendly and moves can be entered by mouse or keyboard. The opening book is deep and it goes through multi-variation analysis. The program has several engines, all of them different from each other. The games are examined for errors and the built in coach warns the player if there is a mistake or danger. More than 16 million moves per year are available in the chess-opening database. Direct access is available for online endgame database. Its interesting graphical display and game history makes the entire program more interesting for the users.

2003
The 11th World Computer Chess Championship was held in Graz, Austria. The competition started with 16 participants. After 11 rounds of games Shredder and Deep Fritz made it to the playoffs. Shredder won the championship after winning the second playoff game.
1999
The championship was held in Paderborn, Germany from 14th June to 20th June 1999. Among the 30 participants, which took part, Ferret and Shredder made it to the final playoff after 7 rounds of gaming. Shredder was crowned the 9th World Computer Chess Champion. |
